# Administration overview

The Admin area of {maia} is where account owners and administrators manage everything outside of building pipelines—user accounts, access control, authentication, billing, credentials, and platform security. This section is for anyone responsible for setting up or maintaining a {maia} account, rather than for data engineers or data analysts.

## Account management

Register for a {maia} account, start your free trial, manage your account details, invite and manage other users, and secure your account with multi-factor authentication. ## Access control

Use role-based access control to determine what each user can see and do at the account, project, and environment level, and generate API credentials for programmatic access. For more information, read [Role-based access control overview](/docs/administration/role-based-access-control-overview).

## Single sign-on (SSO)

Authenticate users through an external identity provider instead of {maia} passwords, using OpenID Connect or SAML. These pages include setup guides for Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, and generic identity providers. For more information, read [Single sign-on](/docs/administration/single-sign-on).

## Billing

Track how your {maia} usage is charged, set budgets and alerts, view invoices, monitor consumption on the usage dashboard, and manage subscriptions bought through the AWS or Azure marketplaces. For more information, read [Billing overview](/docs/administration/billing-overview).

## Secrets

Connect an external secret manager—AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault, or GCP Secret Manager—instead of storing credentials directly in {maia}, and reference secrets from your pipelines. For more information, read [Secrets overview](/docs/administration/secrets-overview).

## Snowflake

If your account uses Snowflake as a data platform, set up the role privileges {maia} needs, and authenticate using key pair or programmatic access token (PAT) authentication. For more information, read [Snowflake overview](/docs/administration/snowflake-overview).
