# Scripting components

Scripting components let you run custom code—SQL, Python, or dbt—directly within an orchestration pipeline. They're designed for logic that goes beyond what a built-in component can express, while still fitting into the same visual pipeline as everything else.

## Use cases

Scripting components are useful when you need fine-grained control over logic, want to reuse existing SQL, Python, or dbt code, or need capabilities that fall outside the scope of the standard component library. Use scripting components to:

* Run custom SQL statements that aren't otherwise available as a dedicated component.
* Write Python logic to handle custom transformations, calculations, or integrations.
* Push script execution down to your data warehouse's compute engine, rather than running it externally.
* Trigger an existing dbt project as a step in a larger pipeline.
* Call out to a hosted notebook to run more complex or exploratory logic.
