# LinkedIn Ads authentication guide

This guide explains how to acquire LinkedIn credentials and configure a LinkedIn app in order to create a LinkedIn Ads [connection](/docs/guides/connections.md) in Maia. This connection can then be used to authorize the [LinkedIn Ads](/docs/components/linkedin-ads.md) component.

***

## Prerequisites

Before you can create a LinkedIn Ads connection in Maia, you need to create an app for the LinkedIn page that you want to fetch data for. For step-by-step instructions on creating an app, read the LinkedIn [Create a new app for a LinkedIn page](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1667239) guide.

> [!NOTE]
>
> After you create a new app, it requires verification, which you can start by clicking **Verify**. However, you don't need to verify the app in order to create a LinkedIn Ads connection in Maia.

If you already have an app for your LinkedIn page, continue with the steps below.

## Create a LinkedIn Ads connection

To acquire your LinkedIn credentials, configure your LinkedIn app, and create a LinkedIn Ads connection:

1. In Maia, follow the steps to [add a connection](/docs/guides/connections.md#add-a-connection) and select **LinkedIn Ads** as the provider.

2. Copy the **OAuth callback URL** shown in the **Values** section. This URL is different depending on your account region, but will be similar to this example: `https://projects.<region>.matillion.com/connections-oauth-redirect`.

3. Open your LinkedIn app in the LinkedIn developer portal.

4. In the **OAuth settings** section of your app, paste the OAuth callback URL into the redirect URLs field. For more information, read the [Configure your application](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/shared/authentication/authorization-code-flow?tabs=HTTPS1#step-1-configure-your-application) step of Microsoft's LinkedIn authentication guide.

5. In the **Products** section of your app, select and add the **Sign in with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect** product. This may require approval—in this case, submit an access request. After access is granted, return to this guide.

6. In the **Auth** section of your app, find and copy your **Client ID** and **Primary client secret**.

   > [!WARNING]
   >
   > * Make sure to copy your **Primary client secret** immediately, because it will only appear once.
   > * When copying these values, some browsers may add a space to the end of the string. Watch out for this as it will cause the credentials to fail.

7. In the **Auth** section of your app, copy the names of the scopes. For example, `openid`, `profile`, and `email` are the standard scopes.

8. Return to Maia.

9. Complete the fields in the **Values** section:
   * In **Client ID**, enter your LinkedIn **Client ID**.
   * In **Client secret**, enter your LinkedIn **Primary client secret**.
   * In **Scope**, enter the names of the scopes shown in your app in a list with no separators. For example:

     ```
     openid profile email
     ```

10. Click **Authorize**.

A new browser tab will open, connecting you to the third party. Select your account, and complete the connection. Upon success, this browser tab will close.

Your new LinkedIn Ads connection will now appear in the **Connections** list, and can be used to authorize the LinkedIn Ads connector.
