The Maia documentation features an AI assistant that can answer your questions about Maia in plain, conversational language. Instead of working out which page to read or which keywords to search for, you describe what you want to know—how a feature works, how to configure a component, or how different parts of the platform fit together—and get a clear, relevant answer in seconds. The AI assistant helps you find what you need faster, so you spend less time hunting through documentation and more time building and running your data pipelines. It’s useful whether you’re new to Maia and learning the basics, or experienced and looking for a specific detail.

Getting the best from the AI assistant

To start a conversation with the AI assistant, either type your question directly into the Ask a question about Maia field on the documentation homepage, or click the Ask AI icon in the bottom right of any documentation page and enter your question. The AI assistant will process your question, search our resources to find relevant information, and provide an answer. Where relevant, it will include links to useful pages, code examples, and other helpful content related to your question. The AI assistant has access to a range of sources that help it to answer your questions, including our documentation, the Maia YouTube channel, and our deployment library on GitHub.

Best practices

To help the AI assistant answer your questions, we recommend following this guidance when asking questions:
  • Be clear and concise: The AI assistant works best when your question focuses on a specific feature or process, as this allows it to provide a clear answer or simple explanation.
  • Provide context: Include relevant information in your question to help the AI assistant understand exactly what you need to know. For example, if you’re asking about your Maia runner, tell the AI assistant whether you use a Full SaaS or Hybrid SaaS solution so it can give you tailored advice.
  • Use follow-up questions: If the AI assistant’s response isn’t exactly what you were looking for, ask a follow-up question to narrow down the answer, or provide extra context to help guide it.
  • Stay on topic: The AI assistant on the Maia documentation site can only answer questions about Maia. It’s not a general LLM and can’t answer any unrelated questions.

When Ask AI isn’t suitable

We don’t recommend asking the AI assistant questions about the following topics, because the relevant content is maintained in a different way to our documentation and related resources.
  • Security: For detailed information about security policies, including AI-related security questions, testing, and data privacy, visit the Matillion Trust Center.
  • Pricing: For details about Maia pricing, plans, and credits, contact your account representative or visit the Maia Pricing page.

The AI assistant is separate from the Search bar at the top of every documentation page. If you know the content you’re looking for, use the Search bar to search the Maia documentation using a keyword. For example, you can search for a specific component by name to see a list of guides related to that component.

Ask AI and Maia Team

The AI assistant is separate from Maia Team, expert AI agents that help you to plan, build, refactor, optimize, and troubleshoot data pipelines in Maia. The AI assistant uses a range of resources to answer your questions about Maia while you’re browsing our documentation. Maia Team is on hand within the platform to help you with a range of tasks and increase your data engineering productivity. For more information, read our Maia Team overview.
